Watercolour for beginners

Watercolours are a beautiful gentle and relaxing way to express your creative self. It is also doesn’t take up much space and is quick to set up and pack up. Easy and rewarding to learn.

I find it one of the most relaxing of art mediums. It teaches us patience, letting go and learning to slow down. I use this medium when I am feeling stressed or needing to calm down. Watercolour won’t rush for anyone.

My grandfather was a lovely landscape watercolour artist and his delightful watercolour and pen work always intrigued me. I loved the unfinished look to his paintings coupled with the wonderful structure of his penmanship of the layers drawn over the top of dried watercolours. I am self taught in watercolours, unfortunately Popa wasn’t around long enough to pass on his knowledge but his passion for the medium lives on in me.

While she fills our bellies with lovely nibbles and wine, I will share with you all I know about watercolours and the different techniques we can use to create variations in our works.
